Looking for the perfect holiday giving idea?

No matter who you’re shopping for — your mom who believes in random acts of kindness, your nephew who’s eyeing the Peace Corps, or a close friend who’s just returned from a mission trip to Africa — hope is the meaningful Christmas gift they’ll never forget.

And, when you include our Room to Hope campaign in your holiday giving plans and, better yet, give on behalf of someone you care about, you’ll give girls in desperate need just that — hope.

How will our Room to Hope campaign help Kenya’s girls in need?

Girls in Kenya come to Light of Hope Home and School from desperate circumstances. Like so many others across Africa, they have lived in poverty — some have been orphaned, neglected, or abused.

At Light of Hope, these girls receive the support and services they need to thrive — from health care and mental health counseling to education and leadership training.

More importantly, they receive an abundance of love.

Unfortunately, we can’t meet the overwhelming need present in the communities that surround us, but we can extend our doors a bit wider with your help.

How?

We’ve recently completed the construction of a beautiful new dorm. With your support, we’ll be able furnish the rooms that will allow us to welcome more girls to the Light of Hope family.

And, when you give this meaningful Christmas gift on behalf of a loved one by December 17th, we’ll send them a holiday card to let them know how their donation is making a difference.

How far will your money go?

  • $30 provides bedding for one girl
  • $40 provides a mattress for one girl
  • $100 provides a study table and two chairs
  • $200 provides a set of bunk beds
  • $250 provides a wardrobe

Blessed by abundance?

If you furnish an entire room for $1400 and help us provide safe space for four girls, we’ll also send your recipient our 2014 – 2015 Light of Hope yearbook and hang a plaque honoring their donation in the room you’ve furnished in their name.

Of course, you can give in any amount that’s right for you. Big or small, your holiday giving really does make a tremendous difference.

What makes Light of Hope Kenya special?

Light of Hope is so much more than a school. For the girls we serve and for us, this is a home and a family. It’s a place where vulnerable girls set down roots; where they learn and grow. And, when they leave us, they leave empowered young women confident in their ability to forge a path for themselves and make a difference for their communities.

Their growth is a direct result of:

  • The loving family environment we foster here at Light of Hope
  • Our holistic approach to care
  • The impact of our leadership training program, funded by the C. Charles Jackson Foundation, and each girl’s growing understanding of the importance of becoming an engaged citizen

When Light of Hope scholar, Jane, finished her leadership training program, she wrote,

Behind every human face there is a story of greatness waiting to be shared.

From hopeless to fearless, this is the kind of powerful change we are privileged to witness every day. We see these girls overcome challenges and grow to believe in their own potential. They may arrive despondent, but they leave determined to pursue careers as doctors, teachers, child social workers, pilots, lawyers, and news anchors — to make their way and make a difference.

Generous holiday giving helps us change lives like Susan’s.

Poverty, abuse, gender inequality — these challenges are pervasive in Kenya and they can seem insurmountable at times. But, together, we can change things for the better if we tackle these problems one girl at a time.

Consider Susan.

Susan came to Light of Hope two years ago when she was 14. Her father suffered a debilitating injury and struggled to find work. Needless to say, providing for his family of six was an all-consuming worry.

Though the family continues to struggle, Susan is succeeding at Light of Hope and plans to turn her aptitude for math into a career as an accountant. More importantly, she is bound and determined to improve the lives of her family — and we have great faith in her ability to do just that.

Make Room to Hope the meaningful Christmas gift you give this year.

Our beautiful new dorm is ready and waiting to be filled with the promise each girl brings to Light of Hope.

And, you can make that happen.
